Unseen they suffer, untired they cry.
In agony they linger, in silence they die!
Glossy eyes but gloomy future. Life is lackluster. This is the state of millions of slum dweller and street children, who are yearning for smile and joy. From CRY to SMILE, there are plenty of NGOs and charitable organizations, which offer free education to underprivileged children, and are dedicated to eradicate child employment. As a part of CSR mission, several large companies are donating millions of dollars in charity. But as an individual, do we have a time to look at our vicinity, or hand a notebook or tee to one of the street children? Real smile can’t be brought by any amount of money. Let’s take a minute think of their plight. Just connect with them. A warm handshake or hug, or personalized approach would bring long lasting smile to their faces. Yes, you can do it. But do it in your own way! |

Premature slum children are often subjected to hunger, malnutrition, and various health-related issues, and are deprived of mental, educational and developmental needs. With a lack of parental care, most of them are thrown into beggary and child labour. UNICEF estimates that around 175 million children under 14 are engaged in child employment worldwide, excluding domestic labour. Of the total workforce, child employment accounts 32 percent in Africa, 22 percent in Asia and 17 percent in Latin America.
